Gardening Action Plan

Gardening Action Plan

Tropical Zone
Plant a tree now whilst there's still rain - consider small, flowering trees like Cassia marginata and Cassia nodosa, (Avoid Cassia fistula, which is invasive); Firewheel tree Stenocarpus sinuatus, Swamp Bloodwood Corymbia ptychocarpa; Lagerstromiea speciosa (Pride of India), Tabebuia argentea (Yellow Trumpet Tree) and Tabebuia pallida.

Subtropical Zone
Many gardeners are finding rain is washing the nutrients out of the soil, so try replenishing it this weekend with loads of organic matter - compost, pelletised chook manure and seaweed emulsion: Making Perfect Compost

Arid Zone
Heavy mulching and careful "flush" watering can help correct the salinity caused in areas with rising water tables - as can planting saltbush:
Repairing the Land

Temperate Zone
Prepare rose beds for planting bare-root specimens:
Starting a Rose Garden

Cool Zone
Now that woodfires are on the go, consider using the ash as part of a fertilising regimen: Novel Nutrition
