IT'S PLANTING TIME!

With the summer heat passing, now is the perfect time to start planting.

Here are some great planting tips!

  • Use the time before planting to improve the soil by digging in compost or aged manure
  • Dig your hole about the same depth as the pot your plant is in and about twice the width.
  • Before removing the new plant from the pot, give it a good soak, allowing the water to run through the drain holes
  • If you have trouble removing the plant from the pot, try carefully running a knife blade between soil and the inside of the pot to gently loosen roots.
  • Place the plant in the hole and move it around to find the ideal position. Check the plant will not be sitting at a lower level (unless long stem planting) and then backfill with soil
  • Water the plant in well. This prevents air pockets from forming around roots which means the plant has trouble accessing nutrients from the soil
  • Monitor new plant daily for a week or so to check that it is doing well. Follow the care instructions for the plant and enjoy!
