Jobs for the weekend | | Tropical Climate Zone - Stake and tie up tall crops before the storms hit.
- Remove loose items and put them away in sheds.
- Have an arborist prune trees near powerlines.
Subtropical Climate Zone - Prune roses - cut them back to a strong growing point, removing about a third of the growth.
- Feed and mulch roses and give them a deep water and they'll re-flower again with gusto.
- Trim and feed purple wreath vine.
Arid Climate Zone - Soak pot plants. Give them a thorough drink by submerging the entire pot in a bucket of water. This helps to rewet the soil if it’s become hydrophobic.
- Plant spring onions, leeks, lettuces and zucchini.
- For a native version of spinach, sow Warrigal greens in a semi-shaded area.
Temperate Climate Zone - Prune wisteria. Cut the whippy shoots back by 90%, which still leaves new-season buds to produce next spring’s flowers.
- Treat fruit fly-affected plants. Remove affected fruit then either bury it deep in the ground or place in a hot compost.
- Make sure your worm farm is cool and moist.
